One Year Anniversay

The hubby and I celebrated our one year anniversary this past September in Napa Valley.  We both agreed it was one of our favorite trips!  The weather was amazing, the country side was beautiful, and of course the wine was fabulous.  Our trip started off with our bags not making it to San Francisco.  BOO!  Luckily, we were able to pick them up early the next morning and get our vacation started with a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge.  We stopped in the cutest little town, Sausalito, for lunch and window shopping before taking the ferry back to San Fran.  I highly recommend eating lunch on the water at Horizons.  Yummy fish tacos!

That evening we headed for Napa.  The next day we started off bright and early at my favorite, Cakebread.  We then headed to V. Sattui for more wine tasting where we had a picnic lunch outside.  From there we visited Plumpjack and then our hotel pool.  We ended our day with a delicious dinner at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone.

Day 3 we headed for Healdsburg to visit the Gooding's family friends winery, Arista. First, we made a pit stop at a petrified forest museum.  It was pretty weird to see trees that are more than 3 million years old that have turned into rock.  I'm pretty sure this was a childhood dream of Gordon's.  His mom still has a box of rocks he collected when he was a kid.  Haha.  Before going to Arista we stopped in town for lunch and had a wine tasting at La Crema (another fav).  We had so much fun at Arista and learned a little bit about the business.  Gordon even got a lesson in grafting during our private tour.  Our last stop before heading back to Napa was Ferrari-Carano's.  They not only had great wine but beautiful gardens.  I got a few lessons from my own personal landscape architect as we walked through the grounds. :)  That night we had our one year anniversary dinner at Cuvee where I gave Mr. G his new bow and arrow.  Needless to say, he loved it!  We had such a relaxing weekend in Napa.  It's always nice to have a weekend away from the housework!  We both look forward to the day we get to visit Napa again.

Since we were out of town on our actual one year anniversary we didn't get to eat the top of our wedding cake.

I got the cake out on October 5, 2011 for another important celebration!!

That's right!!!!  We are having a BABY!  The positive pregnancy test was little bit of a shock since I'd taken two other tests over the weeks before that both were negative.  I found out during my lunch break at work....I can't tell you how hard it was to not immediately call Gordon.  So, after work I ran home and got this last minute "wedding cake" dinner together.  It was a Wednesday night so Gordon was a little surprised by the fancy dishes and candles.  He was even more confused when I gave him the "gift" to open since we'd already done anniversary presents in Napa.  The first words out of his mouth when he opened the box were "Really?" (with a big smile on of course).  It was such a happy day....maybe a little scary because of all the unknowns.  While walking the dog that night Gordon decided we had to call and tell his parents.  We were going to Midland that weekend for a Texas Tech football game so we decided to tell my parents in person then.  Needless to say both grandparents are ecstatic and so are we!  2012 is going to be a great year.
