Change of Plans

Monday I had my routine doctor appointment.  I was scheduled to do the glucose tolerance test and have another ultrasound done to check my cervix.
Let me start off with a little past history....
At my very first "baby" appointment I was told that I have a bicornuate uterus.  Since I was already 7 weeks pregnant they said it's hard to tell exactly what shape my uterus is since it had already started changing/growing.  Some of the things associated with this "funny" uterus are preterm birth (15-25% chance) usually due to shortened cervix and  malpresentation (baby is breech).  My doctor said my cervix would be checked every 4 weeks starting around week 24 and I would be seen by a maternal fetal medicine physician.  At 19 and 22 weeks I was seen by the maternal fetal medicine physicians where we were given lots of good news.  They said William had a beautiful heart, a healthy looking umbilical cord, all his measurements were good (70th percentile overall), and at 22 weeks my cervix was nice and long at 3cm.  At 25 weeks my cervix was 2.8 cm (still good).
Now here we are at 29 weeks....
On Monday I went to the doctor without Gordon since we both figured it would be an uneventful appointment.  HA.  Little did I know everything was about to change.  I had my ultrasound done first.  As soon as she started measuring my cervix and I saw 1.8 and 1.9 on the screen I knew that #1 there would be no trip to Jamaica for my little brothers wedding next weekend and #2 bedrest was most likely in my future.  My BP is good at 104/66, I gained 3 lbs since my last visit, and I passed my glucose test with flying colors!  When my doctor came in she was just as shocked as me to see such a change in my cervix length.  I was put on bedrest and scheduled to go back to the MFM doctor 2 days later (which was yesterday).  Overall the appointment went well.  My cervix hasn't changed.  Still 1.8cm.  They did a test called fetal fibronectin that helps to determine if a preterm delivery is going to occur in the next 7-10 days.  Thankfully it came back negative (super happy about that)!  Other good news...William's heartrate was 146 and my amniotic fluid level is good.  Baby boy is measuring a little small.  He went from being in the 70th percentile in February to the 11th.  His estimated weight is 2 lbs 11 oz.  SO, what do we do from here?!?!  We wait and hope the little guy stays put for at least 4 or 5 more weeks.  Until then I'm on strict bedrest.  I can get up to shower, use the bathroom and grab a snack from the kitchen.  No cooking, no cleaning and no other extra curricular activities.  I go back to my doctor in 12 days to have my cervix checked again and to the MFM doctor in 3 weeks to do another growth scan of our little angel.  So, until then all we can do is pray!
I'm super sad to miss my brother's wedding but so thankful that all this happened before we ended up in another country.  I'm hoping we can have a fun post wedding celebration this summer when William can join in on the fun!  We also canceled the Texarkana baby shower but will hopefully have a sip and see sometime this summer.  What will I do with all my free time?  READ, catch up on Grey's Anatomy, watch lots of movies, work on some snapfish photo albums, learn how to use my fancy new camera from my parents, write thank you notes, and daydream about the day I hold my BIG baby boy.

Houston Baby Shower

Last weekend a few of my fabulous friends hosted a shower for me and baby William.  Everything about it was perfect!!!

My fun filled weekend started on Wednesday night when my mom flew into town.  We (well really my mom!) shampooed the carpets that night so the baby room would have time to dry before we started moving furniture into it the next day.  Thursday morning I went on an early morning walk around Memorial Park since I can't seem to ever sleep past 7:00 or 7:30.  Mom and I had lunch at Barnaby's, got pedicures and then headed home to wait for the rocking chair to be delivered.  We ordered the glider back in February from Le Bebe in Midland.  I was super excited to see what it looked like with the fabric we had chosen.  Good news....it's adorable and super soft!  After that we went to the galleria so my mom could do a little shopping.  My mother in law got into town around 4:00 and that's when the baby room decorating began.  We hired a "handy man" to help put up the curtain rod and to carry all the baby furniture up to the third floor.  Juan was able to put the crib together in record time!
On Friday my mother in law, Jackie, hung paintings and letters on the wall and my mom did all the crib bedding stuff.  William's nursery couldn't be more perfect.  It turned out EXACTLY like I wanted it to.  I'm in love with everything about it and can not wait until the day I'm sitting in this chair holding him!

Saturday we headed out to Katy for the baby shower around 11:00.  I had started feeling really sick the day before around dinner time so I didn't get much sleep that night.  :(  My mom thinks I over did it on Thursday and Friday.  Having a three story home makes everything a little harder!  Lots of up and down to get everything into the nursery plus a ton of errands = one tired mama.  Luckily, I started feeling better by the time I got to Alison's house.  It was a beautiful shower with some of my favorite people.  I love seeing all my girls from M.D. Anderson.  We had a lot of fun years working together and still manage to pick up where we left off whenever we're all back together.  William got a ton of great stuff and a much needed CARSEAT!  Yippee!  We are very blessed.

The rest of the day we relaxed.  We all took a nice long nap and then went to Collina's for some yummy pizza.  Such a productive weekend!  I'm so glad both my mom and MIL were able to come to Houston to celebrate and decorate.  haha.  Once we get the dresser in the nursery I'll post some pics!

Happy to see the third trimester (28 weeks)!!!

27 weeks

This past weekend was a super busy one!!  Saturday was our five year "dating anniversary".  Gordon says I can't count it anymore since we're married but I think I always will!  We did our normal Saturday stuff....breakfast at Barnabys, grocery story and the gym.  That afternoon we went to the rodeo to see Chris Young.  I would go to the rodeo every night if the parking and congestion wasn't so terrible!  My favorite part is watching the Mutton Bustin' (little kids riding on the sheep).  I always get a good laugh out of the little cuties.

Heading to the rodeo

Sunday we went to our first of two baptism classes and spent the rest of the day cleaning out the "man room".  It was a sad day for poor Gordo.  He's really enjoyed having his own little space to watch TV and of course play video games.  As for me....I'm ecstatic to get started on our baby boys nursery!

Here he is on the last day in the "man room".  We'd already moved the coffee table out when I realized we HAD to get a photo. :)

How far along? 27 weeks
Total weight gain? 13 pounds
Maternity clothes? only the tank tops that I wear to work under a scrub jacket and maternity jeans.  Otherwise I'm just wearing my normal clothes.
Exercise: about 3 times a week.  I usually make it to the gym or Memorial Park on Friday after work, Saturday and another day during the week.
Stretch marks? Not yet.  Keeping my fingers crossed!
Sleep: I usually wake up 3X/night to use the bathroom.  Most nights I have a really hard time going back to sleep after the 2:00 bathroom break.  Pregnancy insomnia?!?!  I guess I had less energy than I realized the first trimester...back then I was asleep by 8:30 and felt exhausted!  These days I go to sleep around 10:00 pm and can't sleep past 8:00 am.
Best moment this week:  Thinking about William's new room.  I can hardly wait to hold him.
Miss anything:  Wine.  I miss sitting on the couch reading my book with a glass of wine.  3 months and counting!
Movement:  He stays pretty busy in there.  He still goes crazy when I play music.
Food cravings: Anything with cheese!!  It's been this way the entire pregnancy.  Goldfish, cheetos, chips and queso....
Anything making you queasy or sick:  The yogurt I used to eat every morning before work still doesn't settle well.
Labor signs: Nope.  I do get some tightness in my belly when I walk around the park but it doesn't last long.
Belly button in or out? It looks like it's about to pop out.  Ewww
Wedding rings on or off? on
Happy or Moody? Happy.  I do get moody when I have to pick up after Gordon constantly :)  I guess that's life with a male!  Better get used to it.  haha
Looking forward to: My mom and mother in law coming into town to start working on the nursery and for my first baby shower this weekend!!
Other:  Reading The Hunger Games.  So addicted!  I can hardly wait for the movie to come out on March 23rd.

26 weeks

There's nothing too exciting to report this week.  I did decide it was finally time to get some maternity jeans.  I was still able to wear my jeans with the belly band but felt like they were digging into my stomach especially when I was driving.  I must say that maternity jeans are pretty great!
Gordon and I had a pretty low key weekend.  We did the normal grocery shopping, house cleaning, breakfast at Barnaby, Saturday night movie watching and church on Sunday.  We've been going to the gym together on Friday evening and then heading over to Berryhill for fish tacos (perfect during lent!).  I LOVE their queso but Gordon never wants to go so I'm thankful for fish Friday right now!  We took advantage of the beautiful weather this weekend and went to Memorial Park on Sunday for a walk.  Gordon says he won't be able to go much longer with me because his allergies are starting to act up.  Pollen + Gordon = disaster!  We're praying he doesn't pass this on to little William.  :(
Yesterday was my day off work so I went walking again after the AT&T guy got finished installing our new U-verse.  YAY for U-verse!!  I got tired of Comcast's poor customer service and high prices and Gordon is thrilled to have 300 channels.   He's most excited about Starz so he can watch Spartacus.  Boys.
